If you don't already own a copy of "Jesus Calling," run to the nearest bookstore (or amazon, if you're like me!). I received my copy as a gift just recently, and I cannot begin to express how it has blessed me. Once in a while you come across a treasure of a book that really impacts you. I felt this way when I read One Thousand Gifts. Once again I find myself overwhelmed by such beautiful truths that pierce my soul.

As you know, I've been struggling a bit in my role as a mother to five, back in the states, without all the help I had in Mexico, Jon working nights, all my stuff in boxes, still in transition (how I've come to hate that word)..etc..and I've be praying that I would just focus on the now. I don't want to stress about the future, or the worries of the unknown...yet I do. I am so thankful that God meets me where I am and that He loves me. Last night when I was weary at the end of yet another day, God reminded me just how much He loves me. This was my reading from yesterday; I hope it encourages and blesses you:

Rest in Me, My child, forgetting about the worries of the world. Focus on Me - Emmanuel - and let My living Presence envelop you in Peace. Tune in to My eternal security, for I am the same yesterday, today, and forever. If you live on the surface of life by focusing on ever-changing phenomena, you will find yourself echoing the words of Solomon: "Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless!"

Living in collaborating with Me is the way to instill meaning into your days. Begin each day alone with Me, so that you can experience the reality of My Presence. As you spend time with Me, the way before you opens up step by step. Arise from the stillness of our communion, and gradually begin your journey through the day. So...I missed a few days...a little dissapointing, but that's what happens in the real world. Life happens. Housework, homework, Christmas shopping (yay!), sick kids (boo)...you know how it goes! Despite the craziness of the past few days, we're getting some down time tonight. The kids are watching a Christmas movie, Mateo is nursing, and I get to catch up on some blogs :) I really am enjoying the December photo project...it is challenging me to capture the beauty of every day during this busy season...especially the beautiful people in my life. This picture is actually from yesterday, right before my Dad & Mom left to go back to VA.

I have to admit, I am getting somewhat discouraged reading about all of the fabulous Christmas outings, projects, baking, shopping, etc...when all I seem to be able to manage...is just surviving.

I am still in survival mode. I feel like I've been there for quite some time. I know it's really only been since Mateo was born...but two months later, I am still figuring this five kid thing out. I mean, not to state the obvious, but I didn't actually think I'd have it figured out overnight! That's not what I mean...I just mean, this is some hard stuff. On top of it, Jon is working nights - he leaves at 4:30, and while we are SO grateful for the job, it leaves the evenings (and mornings) to me alone. Mamas out there can testify that those are the most difficult times of the day! So juggling after-school activities, dinner, homework, baths, bedtime...all with a very needy, breastfeeding baby, and a very cranky toddler...I feel like I'm struggling to stay afloat!

Nevermind the sleep deprived part.
Nevermind the fact that I have 8 loads (literally) of unfolded laundry on my couch - that have been there since Monday.
Nevermind the fact that I'm tempted to let my kids buy lunch at school every day instead of packing theirs, just to have one less thing to do.

Nevermind wanting to do all sorts of special, sentimental things with my children during this time of year!

I don't mean this to be a whine session, I just really want to know - am I the only one? How come it takes all I have just to make it to the end of the day without snapping at everyone cause I'm being pulled in a million directions? I often feel I'm not enough for my children; that I can't give them what they need, what they deserve from me...a loving, patient (nonfrazzled!) mother. I mean, I really love my kids - I really love being a SAHM, and I really want them to know.

And please, HOW do I incoorporate anything extra to make special memories with my children? I so want this time of year to be special to them. I want to bake cookies! I want to go see Santa! I want to make Christmas crafts and gifts for friends and family! I want to have Advent every night! I want to read stories by candlelight, jump in the car for an impromptu drive to look at Christmas lights, bake reindeer pancakes for them before they go to school...this is not cause I want to be the *perfect* mom (I've been a mom long enough to know that doesn't exist!)...it's just that I want to do the FUN stuff too!!! Not just survive. Not just survive.

How do I fit it in? How do I create special moments in my home amidst daily survival?

This super simple fondue is my kids' favorite go-to recipe when we haven't had time to make dessert...

1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 c. heavy cream (or more - to your desired consistency)

Heat, either stovetop, or crockpot.

(hint: I normally heat it through on the stove, and just transfer to the crockpot to keep it warm - much faster that way. Also, I don't always have heavy cream on hand, so I also use sweetened condensed milk or even evaporated milk, but it definitly tastes the best with the cream. )

Serve with anything your heart desires: fruit, marshmallows, pretzel sticks, cookies, poundcake

The kids LOVE to just crowd around & dig in! It's especially fun for sleepovers :)

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend!! We're having a lazy Saturday morning here, and I've been enjoying cuddling on the couch with my babies. I get to peruse the internet while they're chilling watching TV...so this morning I was in search of some new recipes to try over the weekend.

I do have a bit of a sweet tooth, but I'm committed to healthy eating. I'm not vegan, but I lean towards vegan recipes because I really limit the dairy & meat in my diet. I came across this fun little dessert on Pinterest, and it's perfect for this holiday season! There are so many desserts - so much food - in our faces all day long, it's nice to have some better options to turn to. So don't be afraid to try a "healthier" dessert option...your body will thank you!

Vegan Pumpkin Custard

( Serves 8 )

Prep. time: 20 minutes, Chill time: 2 hours

-2-14 oz cans coconut milk

-2 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

-2 tsp. agar

-1/4 cup agave syrup

-2 Tbsp. + 2 tsp. brown sugar

-2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice

-1 1/2 cups pumpkin puree

-Dash of salt

-Vegan whipped cream, optional

Whisk all ingredients together in a medium-sized pan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, simmer 15 minutes. Divide mixture between 8 ramekins. Cool in refrigerator at least 2 hours before serving. Serve, adding a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Monday was a beautiful 70degree day...we took advantage and set out to get our Christmas tree, instead of waiting for the weekend as planned.

There is a Christmas Tree farm only a few miles from our house where we've gone other years. It was a quiet day at the farm, being a Monday afternoon, and we had the tractor all to ourselves - much to the delight of our kids!

...and we're ready to go! We were planning on picniking at the park, but decided instead to head over to our favorite little spot near us, Dodge's Market, to finish up the day with some sweet treats.

The drive home was beautiful...all 3 miles of it :) But I'm thankful to see beautiful sunsets every night!

We found the *perfect* tree, so it was a success! And tonight we're decorating it!

Who's been decorating this weekend? We just started and I love every minute of it! I'm not big into Black Friday, but I love the tradition of decorating for Christmas the weekend after Thanksgiving. It didn't exactly happen for us because we can't find the majority of our Christmas decorations amongst our boxes :(

The plan was to set aside Saturday to decorate & get our tree...but we didn't get off to a great start. I woke up to Asher having escaped his room and noticed he'd drawn all over a freshly painted wall...and not 10 minutes later he'd pulled a shelf out of a cupboard and broke half a set of dishes! All that combined with Jon desperately trying to find our decorations to no avail, I wasn't exactly feeling super jolly! It was so dissapointing to not find our Christmas items, and to once again be reminded of the fact that we're still in transition and not in our own home...that is hard for me. We ended up just taking a (much needed) relaxing day at home - complete with an amazing 2hr. nap for me (yay!) - and we did complete our plans by heading out to the Christmas parade that evening. We met up with my cousin Jill and her kids, and we all had a really great time! We've been blessed by fantastic weather this past week, so it was actually enjoyable to be at the parade! (and a little hot chocolate never hurts!).

So the parade cheered us all up, and we atleast found our stockings and a few other sentimental items...and we did hit up the Walmart & Target this weekend to restock on lights, garland, tree stand and some (shatterproof) and supercute ornaments. So we're doing our decorating today (and tomorrow, and the next...) and this afternoon we're taking the kids to get the tree! It is a gorgeous 68 degrees out and as soon as the big kids get home from school we're heading straight to the Christmas tree farm and then a picnic dinner at the park - it is too nice to be inside all day! The we'll come home, set up the tree, string out the lights and celebrate Advent together. This season is so beautiful, and enjoying it with my family makes it all the more special!

Where is my newborn?!

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a baby-lover...I love the baby stage! I love their tiny-ness & never want to rush the stage that they're in...and my feelings toward Mateo are no exception.

However, my little man seems to want to rush things all on his own...he just turned 7 weeks on Thursday, and not only has he outgrown size 1 diapers, can hold his head up, cranes his neck to look at/towards the TV (oh boy!), and sleeps several hours at night...that boy has teeth. YUP...two little teeth coming through.

What. In. The. World???

This past Sunday I noticed he was fussy all of the sudden, but obviously teething never crossed my mind. However, while I was bathing him, or wiping his face, etc, I kept seeing a little glimmer of white - and thought my mind was playing tricks on me...I mean, he's practically a newborn! AND, all of my other kids didn't get their first tooth til around 8 months old! Well I thought I was imagining things, until Friday Jon asked me if I thought Mateo could be getting two teeth! I couldn't believe he saw them too...and sure enough...there they are. Two ittybitty teeth poking through...at 7 weeks old...

I guess they really do grow up fast ;)

While everyone was out showing off their mad shopping skills, we were cozied up in our little home making pancakes and drinking hot chocolate...enjoying every moment over our kids' day off...and I may have done a little online shopping :) With a 7week-old this year, I knew I'd be staying in :) So after our lazy morning, we headed to the park to enjoy the gorgeous sunshine that was brought our way...while I was taking pictures I marveled at the precious people in the frame, and am so thankful they are all. mine.

I know I just shared a link to a mothering post, and I guess you can tell that not only am I spending a lot of time reading blogs (I have to do something while I nurse all day long!)...but I've been reading a lot about mothering, gaining inspiration & ideas for life as a Mom of FIVE! Anyway, here's yet another post that I received in my inbox today...I thought it was a great reminder & I love to share when I think something is worth sharing! Enjoy :)

These Small Hours

Warning: busy times are ahead. 'Tis the season for extra baking, shopping, wrapping, decorating and entertaining. Starting with the Thanksgiving holiday and ending with New Year's, the addition of extra activities on top of our regularly scheduled lives can be a mite stressful.

I'm definitely in favor of doing the extras. Holidays mark the passing of the year. Traditions create a sense of belonging and comfort. Children relish those things that "we always do," and the once-a-year foods and décor call up a sense of wonder and excitement like nothing else.

But here's a reminder: Don't forget the small hours.

Don't lose sight of the people that you live and work with during this busy season. Life happens in the moments. There's a tendency to get impatient and frustrated with the moments when there's so much to do.

Changing diapers, wiping noses, taking time to listen to a co-worker or child's story--we're in a hurry to give it a slap and a promise so we can get to the important stuff. The reality is that the small hours ARE the important stuff.

All the little moments of life add up to memories, relationships and atmosphere. Our attitude in dealing with the little things affects the entire holiday season (and life year-round).

A certain holiday season stands out in my mind. It was busy as always, running from one activity to the next. The usual gathering of family for Thanksgiving, then before we knew it, Christmas. That year was especially hectic, as several family members were preparing to leave the very next day for a mission trip to Mexico.

I remember a poignant moment, captured on video, when each family opened a certain gift in unison. It was a patchwork quilt, crafted from scraps of Grandma's dresses. The family had gathered for her funeral a few months earlier. The grown grandchildren examined the quilts eagerly, pointing out dresses they remembered her wearing. (Who says what we wear isn't noticed by children?)

What I now remember is not so much the quilt, but the fact that we didn't know it would be my brother-in-law's last holiday with us. Dr. Fred Siems was killed in a car accident on the return trip from Mexico a few days later, and life changed forever for the family.

We will attend some events in his honor this weekend--the dedication of a building, the awarding of a scholarship at his alma mater--so these memories are sharp and clear today.

I remember having the feeling that I wished we could rewind, like an old VHS tape. But there are no rewinds, no do-overs, no going back and stopping the inevitable after it has begun.

This holiday season, which has already mentally begun, stay aware of the small hours. Beware the tendency to skip reading aloud and tucking in bed. Live life at home intentionally, and keep things simple. Encourage and love by the caring actions of everyday life: cooking meals, brushing hair, doing laundry. Wherever you are, be there.

Childhood and life are fleeting moments, and our lives happen in these small hours.

As a Mom, I love to talk to other Moms and get their advice, ideas & encouragement...and I hope I can give some too!

Today I was reading over at Lindsay's blog, and I loved reading her responses to often-asked questions. She shares openly and honestly about being a Mom, and the WHYS of not needing to live a perfect life/be the perfect Mom...I love it! I totally agree with her, and wanted to share the link to her blog post here, so that others could also be encouraged about what is actually important when it comes to Mothering - and get a reality check if you ask me...the stresses/demands/expectations put on Mothers can be ridiculous, and we waste our time seeking after those things, instead of loving our sweet babies! So anyway, just wanted to share her blog post with you all, in case you need some encouraging from time to time like I do :)

One Month!

This cutie-pie is ONE MONTH old today! We love you, Mateo Israel! You are such a happy baby - super chill & relaxed all the time. You love to nurse, and sleep, and nurse, and sleep...and nurse all night long! Hopefully soon you'll decide to sleep a bit at night too ;) You love to be held by your brothers and sister, and they love to hold you! You are getting nice and chubby, and we love to see you grow before our eyes, but we're really enjoying the newborn stage, so don't grow too fast! And even though your Mama is dog tired, she is the happiest, blessed Mama around. I love you baby boy - I'm so glad you're mine!

I'm SO excited to share the wonderful news that my baby sister Abby is engaged to be married to the love of her life, Jon! We are beyond thrilled for them, and I'm especially excited to be back in the states for all the planning :) All of my siblings have gotten married since we've lived in Mexico, and so I've flown in for the weddings, but I've never been at any showers or gotten to help plan, etc...so this is going to be so. much. fun!

Cradle to the Cross

With the holidays coming upon us, I get so excited thinking about Christmas and everything that comes with it! Just today Jon brought me home three new Christmas CD's and so it begins :) I got the Christ Tomlin's "Glory in the Highest," Mercy Me's "The Christmas Sessions," and Casting Crowns "Peace on Earth." I popped one in the CD player and it didn't feel too early at all (I have a no-grinch policy in my house - you must always be in the mood for Christmas music - cause I am!) By the way, one of my favorite Christmas CD's is Third Day's " Christmas Offerings" ... amazing! I also LOVE the Casting Crowns CD - we already had it - just lost it and I'm so happy for a new one!

I am really big into tradition and love making memories with my family - and Jon and I realize that we have to be proactive about making traditions with our own family, and it has been so much fun over the years! One of my favorite traditions from childhood was celebrating Advent. I loved the nightly Scripture readings sitting around the candlelight, lighting a new candle each week, singing songs that had to do with the coming of our Savior, moving Mary and Joseph one stone closer each day...it was such a special time for me, and I looked forward to it each year. To me, Advent was the perfect preperation for Christmas...you start at the beginning of the Scriptures, and read through the history leading up to the birth of Jesus. You see how God fulfills His promises in bringing Jesus to earth! It is beautiful, and I am so thankful to be able to celebrate Advent with my own children.

Every year we've used a traditional Advent wreath, however this year we will use something different...Last year I saw "The Cradle to the Cross" wreath and I fell in love with the idea! However we opted not to get it, and I really regretted that decision, so I was so excited to buy it for this Christmas Season!

I LOVE that this wreath is used for Advent, for Lent, and for the day of Ascencion. Here's a small exerpt from the website, explaining a bit about the wreath:

I'm so excited for the Christmas season to begin, and I'm so thankful to celebrate the birth of Christ - this is such a special way to remember, to prepare, to praise our God for fulfilling all His promises and for His love for us!

This year we kicked off our celebrating with a "parade" at the kids' school - all the kids (through 4th grade) get to dress up and they parade around the playground to show off their costumes! Then they head inside for their class halloween parties - super fun :)

After school we headed out to Pitman to go Trick-or-Treating with my cousin Jill & her family - they kick off Trick-or-Treating with a kids parade downtown around the Library, and local businesses come out, set up tables, and hand out candy - it is such a sweet idea! When the parade was over we headed out for the "real" Trick-or-Treating :) We were out for a while, then took a break at Jill & Miguel's to feed the baby & for the kids to get to hand out candy for a while. Then we headed out again so they could have the fun of Trick-or-Treating in the dark...they were so into it...running around shouting, "now THIS is the REAL halloween!"...thye loved all the lights & decorations on all the houses & just had such a good time. I love seeing the absoulte delight on their faces & in their eyes as they take it all in. I love how everyone is out in the streets and walking around and having fun - young & old! I know i'm 31, but I still get excited about Halloween...there really is something "magical" about it.

Look what Santa brought for my little Mateo today! I love these Christmas stockings...my other 3 boys have the same ones from Pottery Barn (with different designs of course), and I'm SO happy with every single one! So...I need some advice!

My precious 2yr.old is being quite the "helper" while I'm nursing...I know it's a cry for attention. and I'm doing everything I can to reassure him, but I still need to figure out WHAT the HECK to do with him while I nurse...cause apparently he takes it as a sign to do everything he possibly can to destroy/get attention!

The other day I took just a few pictures of his handiwork (all during one nursing session):

I didn't take a picture of the entire load of laundry he pulled out of the basket and threw all over the floor...or the stuff he pulled out of the fridge....ahh!! You know, I have five kids, and I'm no stranger to messes around the house - it's part of my life - but this is so frustrating that Asher just goes to town the second I sit down to nurse Mateo...

...so I'm asking...does ANYone have ANY suggestions on how to be able to nurse but have *some* control of my two year old without yelling at him the entire time I'm stuck on the couch?! (is that possible?)

...OH, and BONUS!! Yesterday I got Mastitis - AGAIN - what in the world?!

Halloween Fun

Last night Lily went to her 2nd of FOUR - count them - four costume parties! That girl has a crazy social calendar...i'm a little jealous! The other night she had a skating costume party & went as a ballerina, but of course I forgot to take pictures...here is Pocahantas for last night's party :) I got the costume at a second hand store for $4! Add some cute ribbons, feather earrings and some make-up (but of course) and you've got a seriously cute little Indian princess! Dressing up is so-much-fun and even though God decided that I would have four boys after Lily, I'm so thankful for my daughter and all the fun girliness that we get to enjoy together!

So I debated whether to order the kids' school pictures this year, because Ian & Elijah have their picture "smiles" and I wasn't so sure they would turn out!! (oh me of little faith...) I was so pleased when they got their pictures the other day because they're adorable! I always thought school pictures were dorky & a waste of money, but now that I'm a Mom, I basically drool over anything that has to do with my kids...so, not only am I a fan of these now, I also bought the cheezy 12yr. frames to display them in! I'm such a sucker...

Hey everyone!!

Well, let's see...it's been...too long to count since my last post. You all know I'm not a great blogger, and there are times I just need to set it aside! For the past several months our lives have turned upside down as we moved back to the States from Mexico in May. We had lived in Mexico for the past 7 years and now we're back in NJ (long story short!). So the Summer was a whirlwind as we adjusted (still are) to life back in the States. No time for blogging, plus it has been quite the emotional ride and not something I really wanted to share here. I kept coming back to the blog, hoping I could write a light-hearted post, but really, with so much going on, it was better to just save this space for another time...

...like now!

If you can remember back, in January I found out I was pregnant with my 5th child! And on October 6, our precious son joined our family!

Mateo will be two weeks old tomorrow, and we could not be more in love! The kids are over the moon & it is so fun to see them love on their little baby brother!

Well thanks for letting me share our news with you...I still love reading all your blogs (as you know by my comments!) and I'm sorry that I don't give you much here, but I'm too busy living life :) However, now that Mateo is here and we've had a few months in the States, I'm hoping to keep up more over here...atleast for my family's sake! My precious second born turned SEVEN yesterday...it's true, time does fly! Here he is first thing in the morning enjoying his donuts - a birthday tradition of ours...and VERY excited to be the birthday boy!

After dounts they all watched a new movie we had gotten, and then we headed out for a much need haircut! From the salon we went straight to PeterPiperPizza to celebrate some more!

We stayed for a few hours & he got to play all the games he wanted to :) Then we headed home for some cake...and if you're friends with me on facebook you saw my post about that! Ian wanted a vanilla cake with vanilla icing, which shouldn't have been a big deal...but needless to say, it didn't turn out so well! I couldn't get them out of the pans & the one completely fell apart, so I just slapped it on top of the other & started pouring on the icing...and it was all downhill from there! By the time i was done it was in several pieces, held together by icing, "decorated" with more blue icing, and turned out to be the most fabulouslyhilariouslyghettocake ever...I just couldn't stop laughing every time I saw it!! There's a reason I normally hire someone else to do this! And good thing I ordered the cake for his birthday party allready...

...but he didn't seem to care...he said to me, "MOM! It's better than the cake I was imagining!"

What a sweetheart...as for me & jon...we just couldn't stop laughing at the horrendousness of the cake...!!

...opened presents...

...and finished off the day with tacos & a movie night...Ian said it was the best day of his life :)

We are so blessed by Ian...he is so good natured, fun, caring, interested in everything...and just brings us so much joy every day! We are having his "real" birthday party next week at a waterpark near us, and he is so excited! But we still love to make the actual BIRTHday as special as possible...and I'm glad we could celebrate 7 years with our precious Ian Henry!

Easy Recipes

This recipe popped up on Allrecipes & so I thought I'd give it a try...I don't normally have too much faith in these 10m. deals, but you have to have some on hand! It turned out super yummy, and yes, actually only took around 10 minutes (aside from the rice cooking...).

10 Minute Szechuan Chicken

Ingredients

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes

3 tablespoons cornstarch

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

5 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

1 1/2 tablespoons white wine vinegar

1/4 cup water

1 teaspoon white sugar

3 green onions, sliced diagonally into 1/2 inch pieces

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Directions

1.Place the chicken and cornstarch into a bag or bowl, and toss to coat. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces and garlic, stirring constantly until lightly browned. Stir in the soy sauce, vinegar, sugar and water. Cover, and cook until the chicken pieces are no longer pink inside, 3 to 5 minutes.

2.Stir in the green onion, and cayenne pepper, cook uncovered for about 2 more minutes. Serve over white rice.

So, I know that i've been (a bit!) "m.i.a." over here, and i so appreciate all your emails asking how I am...I've never been a consistent blogger - I always step back when real life has too much going on - so that's all it is. Right now we're finishing up our time in the States...it has been a whirlwind, as you can imagine...travelling with four kiddos, homeschooling, different church every weekend...challenging. So it's taking all that I have to keep up with that, and I haven't been online much...but March 3 we fly back to Mexico - for those of you who know us "in real life," you know there are major changes ahead for our family...unexpected changes...hard changes...please keep us in your prayers. Jon is the stable one - right now I am anything but. Saying I'm resting in Jesus and actually doing it are two different things...imagine that! So anyway, that's the main reason I'm not so chatty online, cause I'm too busy trying to make sense of my real life right now...

Like many other missionaries, due to lack of sufficient financial support, Jon and I have to move back to the States. I didn't want to blog to make some big "announcement" cause it's hard enough to deal with the reality, but I did want to let you all know so you can be keeping us in prayer. We've been trying to raise support for our next term for over a year now, and to make a long story short, God just kept closing door after door until it became so clear to us that (although it was not our plan) He is not providing for us to return to Mexico, but has other plans for us...

...we sang a song in church the other night that had a line in it that I keep thinking about...

"Be still my soul, thy Jesus can repay from His own fulness all He takes away"

Although my life is completely changing, I know God is good and He knows my future, my destiny, and can heal my heart. Please pray for our family as the next few months of transition are going to be so hard. We are grieving the loss allready. I am grieving the loss allready. I am praying for peace that passes understanding. But I will say, although we are knee-deep in the hard part of it, God has been gracious to show us His love & control of our lives...and my sweet friend & mentor Sandy is reminding me that it's not so much that God is taking us from something, but that He's bringing us to something. But right now, I just need to grieve.

Weekend Wanderings

So once again we were off for the weekend...this time not too far away though, for a visit to our lovely friends, Jim & Patti, in southern Deleware. Jim & Patti lived in Mexico for 4 years and were there the first couple of years we were there. They are like parents to us, and some of the closest friends we have. We became fast friends with them when we arrived in Mexico...they took us under their wings, and helped so much with our transition. They stood by us when we struggled with the language, culture shock, the changes in our marriage due to the changes in ourselves...they prayed with us and never judged...our lives are changed because of them, and we were so looking forward to this visit! It is like a breath of fresh air walking into their home, filled with such love & peace that covers you...and their home, what a lovely haven they have made - and they love to share it (which we love too!). We headed down early Saturday morning to have the whole day with them...and in the afternoon their son & daughter-in-law & their 5 kiddos came over too! It was a busy, beautiful household. I especially loved loving on their 8month old twins!

We were all there cheering on the Ravens and eating tons of yummy food - oh how I love thee, fattening U.S. football snacks!! :)

Later that night, we found Lily in the other room reading to the kids...so sweet!

and...apparently we were having too much fun hanging out, cheering on the Ravens, eating, holding babies, and catching up to really take any pictures of us adults :) guess we'll just have to come back soon for another visit Jim & Patti!

The next day we headed down to Maryland to go to Shore Harvest PCA, one of our supporting churches. They welcomed us with open arms and we also got to spend the afternoon with the Pastor's family & the Haynies! Full of spaghetti, ceaser salad, fudge & coffee, we headed home that night...well, home to NJ.

Although travelling for our job is hard to do, the blessings have been incredible. We are so thankful for the body of Christ and how HE surrounds us with love wherever we go.

Look what I (Asher!) got in the mail today!

I am a major fan of Robeez...cutest baby shoes ever!

Asher hates shoes, and refuses to wear them...plus, he doesn't even walk yet, so there is no sense forcing him to wear bulky baby shoes. Robeez have saved our lives cause they are super soft, but they never fall off! I have tried many other knock-offs, but they are never the same.

I love them so much that I ordered a new pair for the next size up, and they came today. They are so adorable that I had to share cause I think baby clothes/shoes are the funnest thing ever! And these particular pair of Robeez my favorite so far...SUCH a sweet design, made from organic canvas & recycled leather...I can't wait for Asher to be sportin' them!

I don't know why I felt compelled to blog about adorable baby shoes... :) But everyone always asks me what are the baby items I can't live without...and for me, it's not that special bouncy seat or that perfect bath soap...I seriously cannot live without my kids in Robeez. I have never found any other shoes that always stay on, are super soft & comfy, ridiculously cute, made from recycled material...and last forever.

soooo, I'm a big lover of coupons & savings & thrift stores & garage sales...and I eat it all up when I come to the states cause I don't get to do it in Mexico......AND it's all so darn expensive there! So, I get all giddy when i come back to the states and find ways to save all sorts of money......for example, today I got my gift certificates to a sweet little restaurant we love...$40 gift certificate...80% off...so for $4 we can go out to eat! I even got a Mrs. Fields gift certificate worth $25 for only $2! Am I not the best Mom ever?! My kids'll LOVE me!

Today after Bible Study some of my friends were talking all about Rite Aid and crazy savings over there, and it got me thinking...I have a few usual ways I go about saving $$ when I'm in the states, but I wanted to put it out there to let you all know that I need more suggestions!! I haven't shopped here in a while...so what are your favorite grocery stores for your favorite savings...or sites for coupons...etc?? Where are your favorite places to get deals...I need advice!!

The other day I got a LOVELY surprise in the mail!

A while back, Abigail & I decided to do a little craft exchange...so much fun! We've been reading each other's blogs for a while now, and i admire her & am encouraged by her. She is such a sweet spirit, and one of those girls you are so sad you don't know in "real life" but, I am thrilled that the bloggy world brought us together. She has such a fun, creative, passionate approach to life, and I just love it! I had been jonesing her peacock earrings on her etsy site, and wrote her about purchasing some, and she suggested we do a little trade...so of course I said YES! and sent a beaded cuff I made that I thought suited her...she also sent me these beauties...i'm in LOVE!

The sad part was, I had given Abigail our church address (cause we're on homeservice in the states) and then I went to Virginia for Christmas...so it wasn't till Wednesday that I received our church mail! I saw the little package and was SO excited! I was so blessed by the sweet note, beautiful wrapping, earrings, and even her own photography...Abigail, you are a sweet sister in Christ, and inspire me to be more creative as an expression of love to others & to Jesus!

It started snowing today! ...the first time we've seen snow in years! It is SO beautiful...

the boys couldn't stop staring out the window during lunch...

I took this picture just as soon as it started snowing :) This is our cozy "little cabin in the woods" for the next three months...we are in love!

and here are just a few pictures to say a BIG THANKYOU to our lovely friends, the Duggans, who headed up everything to get our home set up...and to top it all off, they left us a little sweet treat :)

The kids and I have been spending our days cozying up in the house.....did I mention it's FREEZING here?? We've been enjoying the company of many dear friends, and are so encouraged by the love shown to us! We are enjoying our last few days here in NJ until Monday when we go to VA to celebrate Christmas! So I don't have too much to write about except I'm super excited for tomorrow because I'm hosting a little reunion at the house for my NJ girls!! My friend Tricia is coming up to NJ from NC and so we're having a little par-tay at "my" house with all the girls who can come! These are all my good friends from highschool, and I haven't even met some of their kiddos! I am over the moon!! I cannot wait for the morning...all cozy inside with the Christmas decorations, Christmas music, sweet treats, hot chocolate, coffee, millions of little cherubs running around, and my sweet, lifelong friends to laugh with once more!

Sorry I've been offline, but we just got our internet a few days ago, and suffice to say we've hit the ground running! As you know, Jon left one week before me and drove all the way up to NJ in 5 days with Ian & Elijah...Lily, Asher & I stayed back so that Lily could compete in her gymnastics competition. We then flew into Philly on Monday the 6th...Jon picked us up from the airport and we were ALL very happy to see each other!

We arrived at our new home (for the next 3 months!) and were so surprised to see just how precious it is!! AND cause our church is amazing......

the house was decorated for Christmas
had a Christmas tree!!
the fridge was completely stocked (with all our favorites!)
the pantry was full
the bedrooms were all set up for us and our kids
the rooms had age-appropriate toys for the kiddos
Lily's bookshelf had tons of American girl books :)
there was a massive box of legos for the boys
toilitries in the bathrooms
ready-made meals in the freezer
hot meals brought by different church members every night for a week!
cable/internet was hooked up on wednesday
highchair & crib for Asher

I mean seriously..............we are so blessed. I literally felt like God just wrapped His arms around me and told me how much He loves me, and that He won't let me go these next few months. I was stressed leading up to this trip...thinking of the millions of details, etc...and worried/concerned on how my kids would react to all the travelling and changes. I've been praying so much...God is just so good to us. I am so thankful for our home church here in NJ...you know, now that we've been in Mexico so long, it doesn't necessarily feel like we're coming "home" when we come here. But coming back to a church like ours, there is no doubt in my mind that we have a family here! And we are priveledged to be a part of it!

Yesterday, Kim invited me to a womens breakfast in Salem County and was able to share about my jewelry ministry and sell some jewelry too! I had so much fun setting up a little table & chatting it up with all the ladies there...I blogged about it a little more over here.

Other than the jewelry show & settling in, buying coats (!!), we've actually been doing a little bit of relaxing! Then today we went over to Village PCA for the day. We always enjoy spending time with our friends over at Village...they have supported us as a church since day one, and through the years we've grown some wonderful friendships. They've brought down two medical teams to Mexico as well, and so they have a real invested interest in the ministry, and in us, which is always very encouraging!

Well I just wanted to type a little update...hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures up soon!! We have one more week here in NJ and then it's off to VA to celebrate Christmas!! It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Well I decided to video them talking about that instead so we could look back after our trip and see what they had been looking forward to, and then wasn't planning on posting them...my family has begged, and since they're as in love with my kids as I am, I'm obliging, with yet even more videos of my adorable kiddos..and more run on sentences which i'm famous for...

our "turkey day" happenings...

We spent our Thanksgiving this year with two other missionary families that live in a pueblo right near us...we arrived around two and immediatly dug in cause everything looked amazing! I always am tempted to think that preparing for Thanksgiving is too much work, but there's something about all the prep that I love too! And, it's definitly worth it :) We all contributed different dishes of course, and I have to admit it was nice to not host for a change this year (although I do love hosting Tgiving too!). I made a ham with a honey/brown sugar glaze, a Mexican corn dish, salad, two apple pies, and pumpkin & turkey sugar cookies for the kids to decorate. Desiree and Melody made the turkey, stuffing & gravy (a southern recipe that was AH-mazing!), mashed potatoes, cheesy broccoli, broccoli & rice casserole, rolls, pumkin pie and pumkin delight and probably some other things that I'm forgetting - there was so much food!

As we spent time together, I couldn't help but feel so incredibly blessed & content...so many kids running around, lots of full bellies, rides on the 4wheeler, lots of runs back to the dessert table :), relaxation, beautiful weather, faithful friends...it really was a perfect Thanksgiving...

don't worry! they were going veeeery slow!

Last night I tried to take a little video of Elijah talking about Thanksgiving Day...it didn't really work out ;) But he's too cute not to share...

Ian always has an incredible amount of energy, and so when it's bursting from the seams (and so are my nerves!), and it's getting him into trouble, I ask him to dance...to let it all out. It is a great way to get rid of the endless wiggles that boy has. He loves to bust a move, and I love to watch my baby boy express himself! If you know me well, you know I love to dance...it is part of who I am, and fills me with joy...and to watch Ian jump all over without a care in the world always makes me smile! Music & dance is a big part of our life, no matter who it's expressed, and I always encourage free expression in my kids. Just thought I'd share a little with you all today :)

We're goin' to the zoo, zoo, zoo..."

Last Wednesday we took a field trip to the Guadalajara zoo with some other homeschool families. It was SO much fun! We got to register as a small "school" and so we got a fantastic deal on the price as well as special appointments for all the fun stuff!

We headed off to the aquarium first...the kids got to pet the manta rays - so cool! Their excitement was the best part :)

The kids especially loved the safari, feeding the giraffes, the "panda gigante" and getting to work in the vet's office!

It's times like these (among many!) where I am so thankful for the opportunity to homeschool my kids...I so love all the time I can spend with them; see them love life, love God's creatures, love the earth...I am loving what our family life is becoming, now that we actually have time for each other. I am loving how united we are. I am loving our quiet UNrushed mornings. I am loving having tea time, whenever we're in the mood. I am loving reading book after book with my children. I am loving little hands helping me all day long. I am loving enjoying life with and through my children. I am loving being who God made me to be, and watching my children become who they are.
